With less than a week to the start of the Airtricity League Premier Division season, Monaghan United manager Roddy Collins has been busy finalising his squad ahead of the eagerly-awaited season opener against local rivals Dundalk FC at Gortakeegan on Friday 2 March (8pm)

Roddy Collins has assembled his squad for the 2012 season with a mixture of familiar and new faces.

Players who have re-signed from the 2011 season are Jordan Keegan, Roddy Collins Jnr, William McDonagh, Keith Quinn, John Reilly and Conor McMahon. Joining them are last year’s captain Alan Byrne and Player of the Year Aidan Collins. Local lad Paul Whelan has also committed to the club for 2012.

Roddy has also brought in some very experienced new players in the form of Robert Bayly (ex Leeds United, Sporting Fingal, Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians) Chris Bennion (ex- Middlesbrough, Shelbourne, Dundalk, Athlone and St Patrick’s Athletic) and Darragh Reynor (ex-Nottingham Forest). New to Mons also are Daniel McGuinness, Michael Schlingermann, Owen Humphrey, Tony Griffiths and Conor Murphy.

Monaghan United Under 19’s squad players Niall Crosbie, David Crosbie, James Clarke, Cillian Corcoran, Fearghal McMahon and Shane Dunne are also on board for senior duty.

With confirmation of some further signings still due to come in, Roddy is hopeful of having a very strong panel to choose from for the coming season.
