The Kennedy Cup took place in Limerick University over the past week and three Monaghan United Juveniles represented the club at the tournament for the Cavan/Monaghan Emerging Talent. Those being Micháel Bannigan, Conor Leonard, Monaghan United and CMUL captain Shane McMahon brother of Fearghal who plays for the U-19′s.

The CMUL finished in 2nd place in the group stages behind a very strong Cork side and progressed into the bowl. In the Quarter Finals they beat Clare in a penalty shoot before a convincing 3-0 victory over neighbours Dundalk. In the final they played the NEC and again the game went to a penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 scoreline. Monaghan prevailed winning 6-5 on peno’s capping off an excellent showing in the tournament. Striker Micháel Bannigan scored 5 goals in 6 games for the CMUL on the way to the final which is a magnificant feet. Conor Leonard played superbly on both flanks while Shane McMahon was a corner stone in the heart of the defence.

Congrats to the Monaghan lads as well as the whole team on a fantastic win in their biggest tournament yet. Hopefully these lads will be togging out for the Monaghan United squad in the Airtricity League in years to come.
