Here is a biography of all Monaghan United’s Juveniles going to represent the Cavan/Monaghan Underage League at internationally recognised tournaments this summer.
Name: Eli Ward
Position: Winger
Age: 11
Tournament: Foyle Cup(Derry) and Umbro Cup(Galway)
More Info: Eli has been at United since 6 years old when he started playing in the Mini Leagues. He is highly regarded and respected by his club teammates. His skills lit up the league inspiring United U-13′s to a famous League and Cup double. Eli played in the Foyle Cup last season under Brian Finnegan where his team won the tournament despite not being the favourites. Watch out McGeady!!!
Name: Darren Geoghegan
Position: Midfielder
Age: 12
Tournament: Foyle Cup
More Info: Darren joined United last season joining up at the club with his brother Stephen who plays for Packie Cooney’s U-14′s. Playing 2 years above his age he proved his great ability and what he lacked in physicality compared to his teammates he made up for with his sheer intelligence on the pitch. Darren plays at centre back for his club but in midfield for the Emerging Talent.
Name: Abraham Dixon
Position: Goalkeeper
Age: 13
Tournament: Umbro Cup
More Info: Abraham joined United at the start of the season previously playing with Drumore Youths. Since his introduction he has become the mainstay between the sticks for the Umbro Cup squad. A sensational shot stopper and catcher of the ball, Abraham has an exciting career ahead of him. Abraham won the U-13 Player of the Year at Monaghan United Juvenile’s Presentation night.
Name: Robbie McAllister
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Age: 13
Tournament: Umbro Cup
More Info: Two of Robbie’s brothers James and David played for Monaghan United Juveniles in previous years with great success. Robbie captained the team for most of last season and was a cornerstone in the team. In the big occasions Robbie stepped up to the plate and he saved United on many occasions with some outstanding performances in the heart of the defence.
Name: Conor Doyle
Position: Forward
Age: 12
Tournament: Umbro Cup
More Info: Conor is a recent addition to the squad. At the start of the season he was finding it hard to get a game for his club never mind dreaming about the Emerging Talent. Mid-Season he had a change of fortune. He shocked everyone with his rise to prominance, suddenly becoming lethal on front of goal scoring over 10 goals in the second part of the season.
All five players play for the Monaghan United U-13 team who triumphed last season winning the double unbeaten which was a remarkable feet. These lads will play a big part in the future of the club and will show the talent being developed for all to see.
